William Fredrick Gortbandt, 87, passed away on March 29, 2025. He was born July 7, 1937, the son of Charles and Ethel Gorbandt.

Fred was a graduate of Eastern High School (1955).  He attended the University of Kentucky and was a part of the University of Kentucky Marching 100.

He was a loyal and faithful servant for State Auto Mutual Insurance Company as a claims adjustor for 32 years and retired at age 55. Together, Peggy and Fred bought a house at Lake Cumberland and spent the next 25 years there where they enjoyed fishing, swimming, hosting many friends and family, all the while, living their dream!

He was married to Peggy for 66 years.  She preceded him in death on March 16, 2025.

Fred was a loving, devoted father and is survived by five daughters; Rebecca Snodgrass (Kent), Cynthia Gorbandt, Diane Sawyer (Charles), Lisa Pigman (Guy) and Sherri Veech (Bryan); nine grandchildren, Scott Ashcraft, Traci Ashcraft, Michael Hallman (Kelsey), Erica Hiser (Matthew), Matthew Pigman, Kathryn Bybee (Jordan), Alexis Harbsmeier (Matthew Gumbel), and Nicholas Veech (Emelia); three great grandchildren, Aiden Ashcraft, Ashley Hallman, and Morgan Veech.

Fred was a member of the Buechel-Fern Creek Jaycees, where he received numerous "Spark Plug" awards, the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, University of Kentucky Alumni Band, Fern Creek Band Parents Association, and he was an active father of the Wilderness Road Girl Scout Council.

His hobbies included attending University of Kentucky sporting events for over 50 years, traveling, fishing, gardening, golfing and hunting.

A celebration of life will be held for both Peggy and Fred on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at Fern Creek Funeral Home, 5406 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY. Visitation will be from 3:00-5:00pm, with a service to follow at 5:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hosparus.
