Rev. William H. (Bill) Rogers, 95 died peacefully on Tuesday, December 25th, 2018. He lived a long, full life as a father, pastor, mentor and friend to many.
Bill was born in Logan County KY on April 10, 1923, the son of Harriet Lawson and William H. Rogers.
He married Martha Louise McPherson on January 15, 1944, and in September 1944 enlisted in the US Army, reaching the rank of 1st Lieutenant and serving with the Occupation forces in Japan. After working in home construction for several years, he was ordained as a Baptist minister in 1949 and resumed his college education.
While studying at Western Kentucky College, he was pastor at Salem Baptist Church in Logansport KY, then in 1954 moved to Eastwood Baptist Church in Bowling Green KY as its founding pastor. In 1961 he became pastor at Melbourne Heights in Louisville and completed his studies at Southern Baptist Seminary in May 1964. He joined the Kentucky Baptist Convention staff in 1971 and served as Director of Inter-racial Relations, Director of the Minister/Church Support Division, and post-retirement as Pastoral Consultant on the Leadership Development Team. He also served as an interim pastor for many churches and on the staff at Cedar Creek Baptist Church.
Bill is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Martha Rogers, his parents and two sisters.
He is survived by his sons Harris Rogers (Melanie) of Redwood City CA, Ron Rogers (Carol) of Bowling Green KY, daughters Brenda Meyer (Bruce) of Alpharetta GA, Carol Leist (Dave) of Louisville KY, grandsons Brett Meyer, Kyle Rogers, Brad Meyer, Brian Meyer, Brendan Meyer, Greg Leist, three great grandsons, and beloved friend Nancy Hood of Mt. Washington KY.
Visitation will be 3:00 – 7:00pm on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Fern Creek Funeral Home, 5406 Bardstown Road 40291. Visitation will also be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Cedar Creek Baptist Church, 7709 Bardstown Road 40291, immediately followed by the funeral celebration at 2:00pm. Burial service will be Friday, January 4, 12:00pm CST, at Plainview Church, 2639 Plainview Church Road, Auburn KY 42206,
The family encourages donations to Hosparus or to the William H. Rogers Scholarship Fund at Clear Creek Baptist Bible College, 300 Clear Creek Road, Pineville, KY 40977.
