Obituary

Wanda B. Karolyi (Carr) passed from this life on February 10, 2025. Wanda was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bob in March 2024, and her family is greatly comforted to know that they are now together with the Lord Jesus.

Wanda was born in Bristow, Oklahoma, on April 17, 1933, to Frank Leroy and Mary Catherine Carr (Diehl). She grew up as the youngest girl in a large family of eight sisters and four brothers. Her family moved around often, following her father's work, living in Texas, Missouri, and Oklahoma before settling in Wichita, Kansas.

When Wanda was about age 12, she began attending Immanuel Baptist Church with her sister, Juanita. During a church service invitation, Wanda became convinced that the message about Jesus was true and that she needed to give her life to the Lord. She was later baptized and became a leader among the church youth group.

In 1954, Wanda met Bob Karolyi, who had recently returned to the United States after his service in the Air Force in Japan and had been invited to church by a friend. They were married on January 14, 1955, and were together over 69 years. They had two daughters, Kim in 1957 and Jennifer in 1962.

Wanda was a gifted Bible teacher and served in many churches over the years as a women's Sunday school teacher. She also partnered with Bob to host Bible studies in their home for various adult, college-age, and youth groups. Their spiritual impact is still felt among many who were greatly blessed by their ministry.

Wanda took pride in working hard to help financially provide for their family. She was employed for several years as a church secretary in Ohio. Later she worked as an executive secretary at Top Value Enterprises in Dayton, Ohio, and an executive administrative assistant at Norton Healthcare and an executive administrative assistant at the Kentucky Baptist Convention in Louisville, Kentucky.

Her family remembers the many special holiday and birthday gatherings held in their home throughout the years, and how she would always make everything beautiful and special. She loved to use her favorite dishes to set a lovely table and decorate her house. She was intentional to let each family member know they were special and loved.

Wanda is remembered by her family for her quick wit, her fun sense of humor, her mean Scrabble skills, and her great love of spending time with them. She is survived by her two daughters, Kim (Charles) Tackett, and Jennifer (John) Rogers, six grandchildren: Audrey (Ryan) Gnizak, Michael (Fairynne) Rogers, Josiah Rogers, Carly Tackett, Amy (Nick) Kistler, and Rachel Rogers, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
