Vernon Luther Stout, 88, died June 1st, 2023 surrounded by the love of his family.
Vernon was born and raised in Louisville, Ky. He graduated from Fern Creek High School in 1953, earning the Flying Dutchman Award for setting an example of good sportsmanship for other young people to follow. He was also inducted into the FCHS Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006. He married the love of his life, Donna, in 1954.
Vernon began his career at General Electric in 1953, working there until his retirement in 1989. He served on the Park Federal Credit Union Board of Directors for 10 years. Vernon also worked at Buechel Lanes for 10 years.
Vernon was well known for his softball achievements. During his 50+ years of playing, he pitched 2 perfect games, a feat not often achieved. He was a founding member of the Creekers Softball team, joined over the years by two of his sons-in-law. Vernon finished his softball career in the Senior Softball league, earning 2 MVP awards in World Tournaments. Vernon was also known as an excellent bowler, earning many trophies for his achievements.
Vernon was a member of Beulah Presbyterian Church. He was a loving husband, dad, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He set an example of love and hard work for his family, always lending a hand whenever he was needed. He will be deeply missed.
Vernon had many lifelong friends from work, sports, travel and everyday life. His family often joked they couldn't go anywhere without someone knowing him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifton and Tina Stout; and brothers, Don and David Stout. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Donna (Bernhard) Stout; children, Connie (David) Steffey, Valarie (Joe) Neuhaus, Marcia (Billy) Adams, and Larry (Kelli) Stout; grandchildren, Terri (Matt) Johnson, Chip (Jackie) Steffey, Rachel (Tyler) Edison, Kelley (Trevor) Moore, Tyler (Taelor) Adams, Steven Stout, William Stout, Brenna Stout, Logan (Juli) Stout, and Luke Stout; great-grandchildren, Lizzy and Emerson Johnson, Allie and Trey Steffey, Emma and Molly Moore, Sutton Adams, and another blessing due in September 2023. He is also survived by his brother, Gary Stout, and sisters-in-law, Joy Straub, Ola Stout, and Jackie Bernhard.
His funeral is 10am Monday, June 12, 2023 at Fern Creek Funeral Home, 5406 Bardstown Road with burial in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation is 1-5pm Sunday, June 11, 2023.
