Obituary

Thomas Richard Smith, 89, passed away Friday, February 4, 2022.  He was born December 5, 1932 in Manton, Kentucky, son of Joseph Patrick and Mary Cassie (Murphy) Smith.

Left to cherish his memory is his Loving wife of 30 years, Vivian Feese Whitehouse Smith; children, Richard Smith (Lauren), Timothy Smith (Laurie), Robert Smith (Laura), Stephanie Ojeda (Jorge) and Regina Bates (James); 12 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and siblings, Shirley Ann Miller, Sara Louise Long, and Fred Leon Smith.

He is preceded in death by his first wife Betty Ann (Montgomery) Smith; siblings, Elizabeth Irene, Joseph Harold "Bud", Frances Thelma, John William "J.W." and Ruby Jean.

Tom, was retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 32 years as a postmaster and regional supervisor. Interestingly, he was one of the individuals to drive the first mail trucks from Michigan to Louisville.

His advocation was general contractor.   He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.  He enjoyed watching his Louisville Cardinals as well as Mass of the Air.  He never missed either.

Tom never met a stranger. He was known by many names from family and friends which includes Tommy, TR, Smitty, Tom, Dad, PawPaw, Gpaw and Gpop.

A celebration of his life is from 2pm to 5 pm Thursday, February 10, 2022 at his favorite restaurant, Roosters, 10430 Shelbyville Road. Feel free to bring in a favorite picture or memory to share.

A mass in his honor will be held at a later date.
