Obituary

Teruko (Terry) Shinhara Robertson, 100, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, January 21, 2024. She was born November 28, 1923 in Hakalau, Hawaii. On August 18, 1945, Terry married Harold (Robbie) in Hawaii and moved to the mainland after saying goodbye to her mom and six sisters.

Terry was a devoted Catholic and member of the St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish from the time it was established in 1953.  She was an active member of the parish for many years, doing volunteer work such as substitute teaching, working in the cafeteria and preparing mailings.

Terry lived by the Golden Rule and epitomized selflessness, kindness and thoughtfulness of others.  Family was always Terry's priority. She emphasized education and spent countless hours teaching grade school basics to three generations of her descendants. She loved to sew and could always be counted on to mend a tear, hem pants or duplicate a skirt or dress seen in a magazine. Other hobbies included drawing, painting, gardening and birdwatching.

Terry was preceded in death by her husband, Harold (Robbie) Robertson, and is survived by children, Stuart Robertson (Priscilla) and Janice Robertson; grandchildren, Shannon Robertson and Benjamin Jakubowicz (Nelinda); great-grandchildren, Colleen Robertson (Aaron Ballard) and Allyson McCoy; and four great-great-grandchildren, Logan Pierce, Eden Early, Lily Ballard and Renn Fears.

A memorial mass was held at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, and Terry's ashes are interred at Resthaven Memorial Park. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the Kentucky Humane Society.
