Ted “Dedi”
Tyrone Powers

Ted "Dedi" Tyrone Powers
November 04, 1939- November 02, 2024
Ted Tyrone Powers, 84, of Louisville completed his journey to heaven on the afternoon of November 02, 2024. He worked as a masonry, police officer with Jefferson County Police, and in security at Standiford Field Airport. Ted had a passion for daily running around our country roads before running was in vogue. He loved being outdoors and at his camp on Nolin Lake.
Ted graduated from Southern High School and was awarded All State recognition in football. He went on to play football at the University of Kentucky and then semi-professional football for the Louisville Raiders. As a result of a football injury, he met his wife at Norton Memorial Infirmary, where she was a student nurse. He went on to become a member of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and was also an active member of Fern Creek Baptist Church.
He loved his family more than anything and was always there for them, and he was extremely proud of the family home he built. Ted loved working with his hands and building additions to his home as well as telling corny jokes. "Dedi", as he was known to his family, always made sure anyone leaving the house "stayed safe out there", and he was a firm believer in never saying goodbye, only sending those he loved on their way with a "see you later". He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Leota Powers, and his brother, Charles Wayne Powers. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shirley Burns Powers; children, Mark Powers (Cheri), and Nicole Seraphine; as well as his four grandchildren, Caden, Kylie, and Cole Seraphine, and Kyan Powers; and brother, Eugene Powers.
