Sumitra Rai, 17, died July 16, 2021.

She was a senior at Fern Creek High School and member of the Fern Creek High School Marine ROTC Rifle Team.  She was in Colorado at a ROTC Competition when she fell victim to a drowning accident in the hotel pool.

She was the youngest member of her nuclear family and is survived by father, Dollu Rai; mother, Ran Kumari Rai; sister, Premika Rai; and brothers, Sunil Rai, Shyam Rai and Prakash Rai.

She was a very generous and caring person. Her one of the dreams was to become a military nurse and serve the U. S. Military and provide a good quality of lifestyle for her old parents. She was a precious gift of God to our family and she will be always be in our hearts with the beloved memories.

Funeral services are 12-2pm Saturday at Fern Creek Funeral Home, 5406 Bardstown Road with burial in Jeffersontown Cemetery.
