Sonnie Waggoner, 81, died Thursday, February 23, 2023.

She was born Sonnie Lee Grant on March 24, 1941, daughter of Ollie and Helen Ernspiker Grant.

Sonnie was retired Churchill Downs Turf Superintendent and a member of Hopewell Baptist Church.  She was an alumni of Fern Creek High School and Sullivan University. She was an aviation enthusiast and had many other hobbies and interests, especially gardening.

In addition to her parents, Sonnie was preceded in death by her daughters, Denise Waggoner Firkins and Cheryl Waggoner Simpson; and siblings, Ronnie, Brenda and Garry Grant and Judy Bryant.

She is survived by her children, Bobby Waggoner and Angela Waggoner Sheffler; nine grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and sister, Patsy Johnson.

Her funeral is 11am Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at Fern Creek Funeral Home, 5406 Bardstown Road with burial in Hopewell Cemetery.  Visitation is 3-7pm Tuesday, February 28, 2023.
