Shirley Christean Wood, 87, died Monday, September 14, 2026.

She was born November 23, 1938 in Larue County, Kentucky, daughter of Bruce and Grace Stanfield Benningfield.

Shirley was a retired TARC bus driver and member of Highland Park First Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. Wood; daughter, Wanda McFall; and siblings, Irene Kidd and Claude, Calvin, Clarence, Imogene, Kenny, Bruce, Walter and Larry Benningfield.

Survivors include her daughters, Peggy Cochran and Cynthia Brown; step-son, Timothy Wood (Sherri); grandchildren, Roy Carlton, Amanda Smith-Davis (Mike), Christie Fabel (Chris), Steven England (Jacklyn), Michelle Davis and Amber Overton (Tyler); great grandchildren; great great grandchildren; and sister, Wilma Busam (Stanley).

Her funeral is 6pm Friday, September 18, 2026 at Fern Creek Funeral Home, 5406 Bardstown Road, Louisville, Kentucky with private burial. Visitation is after 1pm Friday until the time of the service.
