Sharon
Cecil
January 4, 2025
Sharon Cecil, 78, returned to her Heavenly Father on Saturday, January 4, 2025.
Sharon was born in Georgia. She also spent some of her early years in Florida, before moving to Ohio where she lived through her teenage years. Sharon was in Dance, and was a Rythem-ette at Colerain High School. She eventually moved to Louisville, KY, where she made her forever home. Sharon enjoyed growing flowers and tomatoes, knitting, watching Hallmark Channel movies and Netflix, and spending time with family, friends and neighbors. She enjoyed writing, making custom Handmade cards, and decorating for all the various holidays.
Sharon had too many accomplishments to name them all. Some of her many were graduating from nursing school and practicing nursing for many many years, before going on to teach nursing. Sharon also earned an art degree, and sometimes joked that she would like to be a professional student. Sharon survived breast cancer for over 35 years. That experience led her to get passionately involved with many cancer related foundations and events including her carrying the Olympic Torch for a section of its trip through Louisville, KY for the 1996 summer games. Sharon was one of the founding members of Lightfest here in Louisville KY, which grew to a worldwide event. Sharon founded the group WOW (Women Offering Wisdom) which focused on mentoring young girls about their own health and well being. She also started a non-profit organization We Survive which worked to offer advice, wisdom, education, and personal experience about surviving cancer. Sharon was very involved with Wayside Christian Mission through the years with many different events and programs. The recognition for many of her volunteer efforts resulted in her receiving a WLKY Bell Award.
Her faith in God was unwaivering. Sharon was a member of Jeffersontown Christian Church, and had spent many years as a member of St. Gabriel's congregation.
Sharon was preceded by her parents; brother; husband, Moody Cecil; and grandson Kyle James Wolf.
She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Wolf (Matthew).
Sharon invested herself into trying to be positive, and to see the good things in the people she met. Sharon made friends easily, had many, and will be missed by all.
Mom, I will always cherish our "Mom and Michelle days" and I wish we had more time. I will miss, and love you forever! Michelle
