Obituary

Ronald Lewis Maddix, 79, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, July 2, 2026, in Louisville, Kentucky, following a heart attack. Ronald (“Ron” or “Ronnie” to his friends) was born on July 5, 1946 to the late Hugh and Maydell Maddix. He graduated from Fern Creek High School in 1966 and maintained a close relationship with many of his former classmates. Following high school, he served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1969. After leaving the military, he was hired in the mailroom at General Electric. Over the years, he worked his way up and retired as an engineering technician in 2008. He was a proud member of New Life Church.

An avid sports fan, he loved Kentucky basketball and could often be found donning a Wildcats t-shirt or cap. In his free time, he enjoyed upgrading computers, watching science fiction films, and playing golf with his friends. He possessed an encyclopedic knowledge of world history, which he shared eagerly, often discussing facts and dates with anyone willing to listen. Nothing brought him more joy than sharing a goofy dad joke, purely for the pleasure of making the people he loved laugh.

Ron was a devout husband, father, and grandfather. He wholeheartedly loved the Lord and his family, and prioritized them above all else. He attended every sporting event, violin concert, and school function possible for each of his many children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. We are comforted knowing that Ron left this earth with the steadfast assurance that the Lord loved and died for him. We know he is now sharing long-awaited time with his daughter Katie, who passed away in 1998, along with many more friends and family members who went before him.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Katie, and his brother, Jimmy. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 56 years, Pricilla Minrath; children, Naomi (Chad), Jesse (Jennifer), and Sarah (John); grandchildren, Abigail, Andrew, Brianna, Clementine, Lillian, Arianna, and Wendell; great grandchildren, Luca and Liam; siblings, Dottie, Janie, Patty, Danny, Lewis, and Jerry; brothers-in-law, Mark, Gary (Sheila) and Matt (Carl); cousins, Charlie (Sharon) and Woody (Barbara); and dozens of nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2:00 PM, at New Life Church, 3402 Goose Creek Rd. Visitation will be Friday, July 10, 3:00-8:00 PM, at Fern Creek Funeral Home, and again Saturday, July 11, from 12:00-2:00 PM at New Life Church. Private burial will take place at a future date at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central. Donations can be made in his honor to the Missions Ministry at New Life Church.
