Obituary

Ronald Dean Kays, 80, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at his home in Longs, South Carolina. Ronnie was born in New Castle, Kentucky to Martha Jones Kays and Davis Kays on April 17, 1945.

Ronnie moved to Louisville in 1958 with his family and went on to graduate from duPont Manual High School. He served in the United States Army at Fort Knox, Kentucky during the late 1960's.

Ronnie was a truck driver for many years, retiring from St. Joe Box Company. He had an incredible work ethic and could build or fix just about anything. Ronnie, always the jokester, liked nothing better than filling the room with laughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Martha and Davis Kays. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; his son, Jeremy (Lauren); four granddaughters, Julia (Cassidy), Miranda, McKenna and Maddie; great grandchildren, Noah and Harper; step daughter Belinda Hammond (Kevin); step grandson, Sterling (Kay); step granddaughter, Alexsys; step great grandchildren, Piper, Boe, and Duke; sisters, Ann Kays (Chuck), Marlyn Korfhage (Glenn) and Jackie Wheeler (Bill); brother, Jimmy Kays (Sharon); many nieces, nephews and cousins; and his beloved dog Sadie who was always by his side.

Visitation is 12:00pm - 2:30pm on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at Fern Creek Funeral Home, 5406 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40291. Private burial with military honors will follow in Mount Washington, Kentucky.
