Richard H.
Dye
September 13, 2025
Richard H. Dye, after a long, full and faithful life of service to Jesus, passed into his arms on September 13, 2025.
Richard was born February 2, 1933, in Grove City, Pennsylvania, to Paul and Nina Dye, and spent his childhood in Scottdale, Pennsylvania. He had fond memories spending summers in French Crick at his grandparents cabin.
Richard was baptized into Christ at Scottdale Christian Church, where he was also ordained into Christian ministry. Richard graduated from Atlanta Christian College (now Point University), and previously attended Johnson University and Eastern Christian College – where he met Clara Fischer in the fall of 1953. They were married August 1, 1954 and shared 71 years of life and loving ministry together.
Richard served churches in East Orange and Newark, New Jersey; Temple, Georgia; Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania; and for his final 19 years, as the chaplain of the Christian Care Home in Ferguson, Missouri.
Richard loved his family. He loved being playful with them and praying for them.
Richard loved cars – his first was a 1937 Ford V8 that cost him $150.
He loved to talk and pastor and encourage others – because he loved Jesus and he loved people. That was the sum of his life.
Richard is survived by his wife of 71 years, Clara; brother, Don (Judy); sister, Martha; and sister-in-law, Ruth. He also leaves behind five children, Rick Dye (Jane), Laurie Butler (Jeff), Bob Dye (Kim), Carole Shackelford (John), and Jeff Dye (Kim); as well as 12 grandkids - and a 13th, Wesley, who died in infancy; and 14 great grandkids - with one on the way.
Visitation will be from 3:00 to 6:30pm Tuesday, September 16, at Westport Road Church of Christ, with a memorial service Wednesday, September 17, at 12:30pm, also at Westport Road Church of Christ.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to ministries that help spread the gospel of Jesus.
