Obituary

Norman " Butch" Mowbray Rutter was born on December 3, 1947 in Wilmington, Delaware, the son of the late Carl Walter Rutter & late Grace M. Fosky-Rutter. He died Thursday, January 9, 2025 in Louisville, Kentucky.


Norman entered the United States Navy November 16, 1965 & was honorably discharged Nov 15, 1971. He was stationed at U.S. Naval Station Kodiak, Alaska & U.S. Naval Manpower Center Bainbridge, Maryland. He retired from the United States Postal Service after 37 years of service working as a mail carrier & desk clerk. He was a huge fan of the Kentucky Wildcats.


He's survived by his amazing wife of 31 years Sarah Joann Rutter; his two sons Michael Wayne Rutter (Kara) of Clarkson, Ky and Carl Nelson Rutter (Lisa) of Leitchfield, Ky. , seven grandchildren Chris, Kaitlyn Morgan, Brandon, Cassie, Josh & Waylon. Six great grandchildren Bryson, Peyton, McCaully, Jameson, Ashton & Cole. Two sisters Norma M. Unruh (Mike) of Fayetteville, N.C and Cheryl A. Rutter-Davis of South Seaville, N.J. Nephews Mark, Thomas, Michael, Donnie, Carl, Gary, Brian & three other nephews; nieces Karen, Debra, Carla, Roberta and Tina. Also several great nieces & nephews.


Other than his parents , he was preceded in death by two sisters Lois Rutter-Herald  & Barbara Starr Rutter- Lenoir  and one brother Eugene Edmunds Sr.

His funeral is 10:30am Thursday, January 16, 2025 at Fern Creek Funeral Home, 5406 Bardstown Road, Louisville, Kentucky with burial in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, Radcliff, Kentucky.  Visitation is 10am-7pm Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at the funeral home.
