Marion Joseph Hawkins, 91, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2023, with his family by his side.
He was born January 17, 1931 in Walton, KY, son of Jesse Frederick Hawkins and Lydia May Anderson Hawkins.
Marion was a mechanic all his life and worked many jobs, finally owning Powell's Sales and Service in Fern Creek. He was a long-time member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church and then Highland Park First Baptist Church, both in Fern Creek. He was an avid UK fan throughout his life. He loved his family, friends, church and taking care of his yard. Marion loved playing cards with his friends. He was a Marine and served in the Korean War from April 1949 until November 1952 and was honorably discharged. After his service of duty, he returned to Fern Creek where he had lived before serving and had graduated from Fern Creek High School in 1949. This is where he finished living his life out.
In addition to his parents, Marion was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mary Catherine Leonard Hawkins; brothers, Fred, Edgar, Albert, James and Edwin. He is survived by a brother, Daniel; sister, Charlotte Bailey; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He is also survived by his daughters, Deborah Krampe (Barry) and Denise Lawson (Garry); grandchildren, Whitney Pineda (Eddy), Paul Krampe, Meredith Graves (Brent) and Jeremy Lawson (Jessie); and great grandchildren, Cody O'Bryan, Chelsey O'Bryan, Carson Pineda, Irelyn Krampe, Feven Kruer, Emily Mangum, Jayden Kruer, Judah Kruer and Xavier Graves.
A service in honor of his life and rejoicing with the Lord's angels in receiving Marion as one of theirs is 1pm Thursday, January 12, 2023 at Fern Creek Funeral Home, 5406 Bardstown Road with entombment in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation is 3-7pm Wednesday and after 12pm Thursday until the time of the service.
