Lawrence "Larry" James West, 71, passed on Saturday, June 13, 2026. He was born May 24, 1955 in Los Angeles, California to the Late Samuel and Mary West.

He grew up in San Jose, California, graduated from High School in 1973 and California Polytechnic State University, San Louis Obispo, in 1977, with a degree in mathematics and actuarial science. It was at CalPoly that he became a committed Christian, during what is now known as the "Jesus Revolution" and was baptized in the Pacific Ocean.

He took a one year break to travel across the country in search of an actuarial position when he stopped in Raleigh, NC because of an auto accident and decided to answer a calling to be a minister and enrolling at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC, graduating in 1980 with a Master of Divinity degree.

Over his lifetime he was a lover of model trains, an attempted author, active in the local Republican Party, member of various Baptist churches, and member of the Louisville Dulcimer Society.

He married in 1979 and sought several positions, landing one in Computer Technology, which became his career.

He was a father to 3 children and grandfather to two grandsons whom he dearly loved.

Preceding him in death was his brother, Samuel D. West.

He is survived by his wife the former Teri Bayes; children, Charis West-Willis (Will Willis-West), Timothy West, and Aaron West; grandchildren, Rowan West-Willis, and River Willis- West; and sister, Karina Nishi Marcus (Robert).

His memorial service is at 2 PM, Friday, July 3, at Encounter Church, at 9105 Galene Dr. in. Jeffersontown, KY. led by Rev. Andy Sabaka, pastor of Grace Felllowship. Private inturment will be at Bethany Cemetery in Valley Station.
