Kathryn Blanchett ”Kitty” Coates, 94, of Louisville, Kentucky formerly of Bardstown Kentucky, died August 2, 2026. She was born August 26, 1931 in Hollywood, CA, where she lived shortly before her mother returned the family to Bardstown, Kentucky.

She was a homemaker, secretary, and member of Midlane Park Baptist Church which became Buechel Park Baptist Church where she was a pillar in the choir for many years, and taught the Ladies Sunday School classes. She became a member of the SBTS Oratorio Chorus in the late 60’s to early 70’s with her beautiful alto voice.

She worked for 36 years at George M. Eady Company, later Eady Construction Company as executive secretary to George Eady whom she greatly admired, the feeling being very much reciprocated!

Before that, ahead of her time, working from home, she “took in” typing and shorthand for several local businesses and attorneys well before the age of computers.

She greatly enjoyed the Sunday worship services she volunteered to organize and direct at the Heritage House nursing facility. Visiting and caring for the elderly was a calling for her. She cared for her own mother in the new home she and her husband built for them all, plus two, until Ellen’s death 18 years later.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Lawrence W. Coates; son, Jeffrey S. Coates; mother, Ellen Beam Blanchett; and brother, H. Clay Blanchett.

She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Ellen Coates.

Her funeral service is 12pm, Saturday, August 8, 2026 at Fern Creek Funeral Home, 5406 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40291 with burial in Mill Creek Cemetery in Bardstown, Kentucky. Visitation is after 10am until the time of the service.
