John
Piercey
December 15, 2025
John Kendall Piercey entered eternal life on December 15, 2025.
He was born January 7, 1946, in Louisville, Kentucky, son of Hugh Kendall and Georgia Rudelle
Kinser Piercey. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his beloved son-in-law,
Brian Samples.
John had a strong work ethic and put his heart and soul into everything he did, which included a
wide variety of jobs throughout his life. During his life he worked at General Electric, where he
served his fellow workers as a union steward. He had a long career at Chenoweth Appliances
where he first worked in sales, but his hands on nature eventually found him in delivery and
installation. He retired from Chenoweth only to grow restless, so he then worked at UPS Worldport
for seven years before retiring again as a proud union member of Teamsters Local 89.
John was a graduate of Waggener High School and Faith Bible College. In his youth, he played
guitar in a band with friends and spent as much time as he could on baseball fields. As he grew
older, he began coaching a variety of teams and sports at churches, schools, and anywhere his
children were playing. John's kindness and unwavering sense of humor endeared him to everyone
he met.
As a man of great faith and service, John also spent a large part of his life as a pastor at several
Baptist churches. His most fundamental trait was his desire to help people which he displayed
through his passion for teaching the love of Jesus Christ, and that he practiced by showing grace
and empathy to everyone he met in his life. Despite all the types of work he performed in his life, in
his heart and soul he was always Brother John, the pastor.
John was a devoted and loving father, and a caring husband for six decades. He leaves behind a
large family including his wife, Jean Sewell Piercey; children, Debbie Samples, Sandy Vincent (Jeff),
Johnny Piercey (Jessica) and Stephen Hugh Piercey (Amanda); grandchildren, David and Kristen
Vincent, Becca Justice, Tyler and Zach Samples, and Morganne and Reganne Piercey; and great
grandchildren, Ellie and Cade Vincent.
John's visitation will be held from 12-7pm on Monday, December 22, 2025, at Fern Creek Funeral
Home, 5406 Bardstown Road, Louisville Kentucky. His funeral service will be conducted by his
lifelong friend, Pastor Randy Payne, at 10am on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, with burial in
Evergreen Cemetery.
In memory of John's passion for spreading the love of God and leading lost souls to heaven, please
consider contributions to Gideon's International.
