JoAnn Mattingly, 78, died Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at her home in Louisville, Kentucky surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Josephine Ann Tucker on March 29, 1947 in Evansville, Indiana, daughter of Thomas Tucker and Alice Eckhart Tucker. JoAnn was a homemaker and an avid gardener. She also worked as the secretary/treasurer for the family business, Matsco, Inc.
In addition to her parents, JoAnn was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Hoffman.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Dale W. Mattingly; daughters, Sara Shaeffer (Kevin Blakey) and Amy Baxter (Brian); grandchildren, Lauren Gowen (Bruce), Leah Shaeffer, and Alayna Baxter; and sister, Mary Tucker.
Besides gardening, JoAnn was a devoted grandmother who thoroughly enjoyed her granddaughters. She enjoyed playing cards and was known as "The Hostess with the Mostest". She loved music and was a charter member of the Fern Creek United Methodist Church Handbell Choir. JoAnn loved to travel and took many unforgettable trips with her husband and friends. She was a natural caregiver who thrived on taking care of her loved ones. Most importantly, JoAnn was an enthusiastic IU Fan! She will be cheering on the Hoosiers after the service.
Memorial visitation is Monday, January 19, 2026 beginning with a 30 minute rosary service at 3pm and concluding with a funeral service at 6pm. All services are at Fern Creek Funeral Home, 5406 Bardstown Road, Louisville, Kentucky.
