July 7, 2024
"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." (2 Timothy 4:7, KJV)
Jerry Milburn Edlin, Sr. passed from life on earth into life eternal on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at his home in Louisville, Kentucky at the age of 84 after a long bout of bladder cancer.
Jerry was born in Louisville on June 6, 1940 to Milburn Crave Edlin and Louise Alcorn Edlin. At the age of 12, he came to faith in Christ and was baptized at Highland Park Christian Church, where in later years, he became the Sunday school superintendent.
Following graduation from Southern High School in 1958, Jerry joined the United States Army Reserve where he served as a cook from 1961 until 1967.
On August 10, 1962, Jerry married his childhood sweetheart, Eva May Wooldridge. The Lord blessed them with 56 years of marriage until her death in 2018 and a son, Jerry Milburn Edlin, Jr., born February 7, 1968.
Jerry was a man marked by passion for the Lord with a relentless zeal to work and provide for his family. For 28 years, he built over 1,500 homes and various other structures in Louisville including an office building, a service station, Damascus Road Christian Church, and the chapel building at White Mills Christian Camp. In 1977, Jerry changed professions and started the Edlin Company Gold and Silver Exchange where he worked diligently for 40 years. All his life he remained faithful to the Lord, serving in a variety of capacities as an elder at Damascus Road Christian Church, a Sunday school teacher at Fern Creek Christian Church, a co-founder and member of the Board of Representatives at the Christian Academy of Louisville, and a member of the Board of Regents at Louisville Bible College. His favorite memory was a short-term mission trip to Haiti in 2013 where he built church pews with a local Haitian brother.
He is survived by his only son, Jerry M. Edlin, Jr. and his wife, Patricia Blevins Edlin; his only grandchild, Dr. Allison Edlin Forsythe and husband Austin of Indianapolis; 4 sisters, Anita Carol Edlin of Port Charlotte, FL, Patsy Louise Edlin Wheeler and husband Charles, Cleta Gail Edlin Hunt of Kokomo, IN, Paula Cay Edlin Wooldridge and husband Richard; as well as many dearly loved nieces and nephews and their children.
