Jack C.
Naylor
September 27, 2022
Reverend Jack Calvin Naylor, known to his loved ones as Pop or Poppie, passed away on Sept. 27, 2022 after a fulfilled life of 95 years in service to God, his family, his country, and his ardent congregations.
Rev. Naylor was born in Brownsville, TN on Jan. 5, 1927 to parents George and Alice (née Barton) and was the oldest of his brothers, Floyd and James, all of whom have passed. Growing up he believed he'd take over the family farm but his path changed when drafted to the army in 1945.
Rev. Naylor served in World War II and the Korean War before an honorable discharge in 1955, earning the ranks of Sergeant Major in the Army and Master Sergeant in the Air Force. During his service he was called to preach and met his wife of 69 years, Voncille Hughes Naylor, who he now joins in Heaven.
In 1951, Rev. Naylor and Voncille welcomed daughter Victoria (Bill); followed in 1954 by son Jeffrey (Jeramie). While their children take solace that their parents are reunited, their absence is profoundly felt.
While raising his family and balancing his undergraduate and divinity school studies, Rev. Naylor began his ministry. In 1952 he was ordained by Antioch Baptist Church in Brownsville, TN. His first pastorate was at Hatchie Baptist Church in Hornsby, TN. He was a devoted pastor, church builder, and church planter. He is Pastor Emeritus at Oaklawn Baptist Church in Paducah, KY and at Living Hope Baptist Church, a church he planted in 1994, in Louisville, KY. Rev. Naylor served Jesus for 67 years shepherding nine churches.
The impact 'Pop' had on the lives of his grandchildren is truly immeasurable. He is deeply mourned by Ryan (Rachel), Evan (Yelka), Joshua (Meaghan), Katie (Jared), Cody, Chelsea, and Jenny.
Poppie enriched the lives of his 8 great-grandchildren: Jack, Emma, Erly, Erlande, Liam, Finnian, Titus, and Maddie. Rev. Naylor remarried in 2020 to Joyce (née Morris). She lovingly served as his companion and caretaker at the end of his life and she will miss him greatly. He was adored by his brother Floyd's daughters Camilla, Amy Jo, and Bonita. His dearest friends Linda and Larry Rogers join the family in celebrating his legacy and grieving his passing.
The Naylor family finds fellowship in our cherished memories, peace in the depth of Rev. Naylor's faith, and the certainty that he is with Our Heavenly Father. We invite all who knew him to celebrate his life on Sun. Oct. 2 at Living Hope Baptist Church at 3PM. Visitation will be Sat. Oct. 1, 12-5PM at Fern Creek Funeral Home and on Sun. preceding the funeral at 2PM at Living Hope. Burial services will follow immediately after at the nearby cemetery of Kings Baptist Church, where he also pastored for thirteen years.
