Obituary

Harold Robinson of Harrodsburg, Ky passed away at the age 94, at Norton Hospital in Louisville, Ky. Harold was born in Dayton, Ohio and was known by many of his friends as Rob. He was an entrepreneur from an early age, starting a service station, a detailing business and a tire retail store, all before he turned 20. At the age of 19, he joined the Dayton Fire Department and became a firefighter. He was the youngest ladder truck driver the department had ever had. Wanting to learn a trade, he became a plumber's apprentice and then a master plumber. At the young age of 25, he was awarded the position of plumbing project foreman for the Minot Air Force Base and then, 5 years later, the Grand Forks Air Force base. He had big plans for his future and he made them all come true through hard work and determination. He had visited Cypress Gardens as a young man, and developed a life long interest in water skiing and boating. He became a nationally recognized water ski jumper, slalom skier and instructor. He developed and operated a private water ski resort on Herrington Lake near Burgin, Ky from, 1960-1979. He was driven to succeed in all that he did. His love for big boats led him to Ft. Lauderdale, where he lived aboard a boat on the New River with his wife and daughter Jill, while learning about swimming pools. In 1969, he relocated to Naples, which was a small town at the time, and started Nassau Pools, INC. His business became very successful, and it allowed him to continue to live aboard boats in south Florida and the Keys in the winter. For almost 60 years, Rob and Joyce lived in Florida in the winter and Kentucky in the summers. He retired at the age of 50, according to the plan he made as a young man, and he bought the "Gentleman's Farm," that completed his dream. Hidden Lake Farm was just what he needed to relax in retirement. He made it into his own little oasis and raised horses and cattle there. They loved watching the wildlife there. He showed American Saddlebreds and Arabian Horses and grew hay and tobacco, He and Joyce took time to travel, going on Amtrak trips cross country and enjoying over 42 cruises together. Over the years, he showed his devotion to family by being the patriarch that brought us all together every 2 years for amazing reunions that were enjoyed by us all. Our reunions at the Dale Hollow Lake were just legendary.

Harold had a never-ending collection of stories about his life's experience and adventures that kept his listeners entertained for hours. He was the light of a conversation and brought smiles and laughter to everyone around him. When he was hospitalized or receiving rehabilitation, he was always a favorite of the nurses and caregivers. Harold kept up the good fight to the very end, always keeping a positive attitude. No matter how difficult the trial. His example of optimism has been a shining example to all who knew him, and especially to his family.

As a family, we want to express our deepest appreciation to all those who worked so diligently to provide for his medical, therapeutic, and personal needs. It made all the difference, knowing that he was in good hands.

Harold survived by his sweetheart and wife of 64 years, Joyce; three daughters, Jill Robinson of Lexington, Ky, Shari Plank of Brookeville, OH (Curt), and Cindi Smith of South Jordan, UT; five grandchildren, Connie Wysong (Terry), Nikki Plank, Jenni Baker, Aaron Smith (Kjersta) Ben Smith; and ten great grandchildren, Jesse, Josh, Lily, Ruby, Grey, Jair, Taft, Zoe, Eden, and Finn. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Noble, Wilma, Eileen, and Bette; Scott (son-in-law), and a grandson, Jacob.

There will be a celebration of Harold's life for friends and family at the Mercer County Senior Citizens Center on Sunday, April 21st starting at noon. The address is 1475 Louisville Road, Harrodsburg, KY. For more information contact Jill Robinson (859)229-5090.
