Georgie Laverne Grant Burch - Originally from Louisville, KY died February 14, 2026 at ninety years of age. She was born September 24, 1935 the youngest child of Geroge Grant and Victoria Scheman Grant. She graduated from St. Louis Bertrand Grade School, Holy Rosary Academy, and completed a two-year Med Tech course at Ursuline College with training at St. Anthony Hospital all in Louisville, KY. She worked for several doctors on a part-time basis.
She was preceded in death by parents, her sister Clara Embry, son David Burch, granddaughter Cassie Burch, grandson Chris Johnson, nephews Steve, Mike, and Kenny Embry.
She was a charter member of St. Ignatius Martyr Church. Since 1959, she was an active member of Zeta Iota Chapter of Psi Iota Xi – a national philanthropic sorority and held many offices throughout the years. She enjoyed theater and the arts and ushered at the Kentucky Center, Actors Theater, and Clarksville Little Theater. She belonged to the Ladies Guild of Mount St. Francis and Kentuckiana Calligraphy Guild, and enjoyed playing cards with her "Pinochle Family" for over 50 years.
She loved going to Kentucky Derby and had a collection of derby hats and attire. She enjoyed drinking her bourbon and happy hours at her final residence at Nazareth Home where she had a community of friends.
She was ever present at ballgames and activities of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Always their cheerleader, and they were the joy, love, and pride of her life. Each have always been so special to her in his or her own way and each truly loved.
At her parish Sacred Heart of Jesus in Jeffersonville, IN, she was in the choir, served on Faith Formation, Liturgy, Haiti, Bereavement, and Quilting Committees in addition to helping the Taste of Sacred Heart fundraiser.
Time was of essence to Georgie but was willingly given to those she loved and the things she loved to do.
Her legacy continues in her surviving children Tom (Linda), Terri (Jim), Kevin, and Bonnie (BJ), her grandchildren Shannon (Marvin), Amber (Ethan), Ian (Kinzie), Michael (Jessica), and Max (Casey), and great-grandchildren Alissa, Hailey, Collins, Kimble, Archer, Jasper, Cole, and Jace and numerous nieces and nephews, and her children's father Thomas Burch, Sr, and her faith families at Sacred Heart, St Ignatius, and Nazareth.
Visitation will be from 3pm to 7pm Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at Fern Creek Funeral Home, 5406 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY. Funeral mass is 11am Thursday, February 26, 2026 at St. Ignatius Church, 1818 Rangeland Road, Louisville, Kentucky. Inurnment will be 1pm Friday, February 27, 2026 at Calvary Cemetery, 1600 Newburg Road, Louisville, Kentucky.
Expressions of sympathy to Haiti Committee at Sacred Heart (Jeffersonville, IN) or Zeta Chapter of Psi Iota Xi.
In many of her notes and letters she would close with the phrase, Pax Vobiscum… so to you we say in her memory, Pax Vobiscum, peace be with you and our world.
