George Eugene Burke, Sr., 71, passed away on August 2, 2026. Born March 26, 1955, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Charles Burke, Sr. and Greta Jean Burke, he lived a life marked by faith, family, service, and a personality all his own.

He was educated in Philadelphia and pursued higher education at several institutions, including Simmons Bible College. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and later spent more than 30 years with the United States Postal Service.

Faith was at the center of his life. Over the years, he served as a deacon, minister, teacher, and pastor, pouring into the lives of others through his ministry and service.

For 50 years, George shared life with his bride, Shirley Burke. Together, they raised four children: Karen Slocum (fiancé Megellan Powell), Whyndii Dunn (Elliott), George Burke, Jr. (Melissa), and Aaron Burke (Aretha). Their family grew to include 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, who knew and loved him simply as Grandfather.

He shared a lifelong bond with his siblings: Charles Burke, Sr. (Lynell), John Burke, Terri Burke, and Michael Burke (Lillian).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Burke, Sr. and Greta Jean Burke, and his brother, Joseph Burke (Sharon).

He leaves behind his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, extended family, church family, and many others whose lives he touched through his faith, service, teaching, and friendship.

His funeral is 4pm Saturday, August 15, 2026 at Trinity Chapel Assembly of God, 8617 Whipps Mill Road with private burial in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central.  Visitation is after 2pm until the time of the service.

George believed strongly that loving people meant being present. Of all the lessons he shared throughout his life, perhaps one of the most important can be found in his own words:
