Douglas Fred Rapson, 78, of Louisville, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Sunday, June 21, 2026, with his wife, son Kevin, and granddaughter Morgan by his side. He was born on September 19, 1947, one of nine children born to the late Carl Jacob and Kathleen Rush Rapson.
Doug was an avid gardener, devoted Kentucky sports fan, and outdoorsman who loved fishing. Doug spent many years working alongside family members at Rapson Tree Service, carrying on a tradition of hard work and dedication. His greatest pride, however, was his family, especially his grandchildren, whose accomplishments he proudly shared with anyone who would listen —and even a few who didn't.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Sharon Hord, cousin, George Rapson (Betty Jo), and his beloved dog, Joe, his loyal fishing buddy and faithful companion. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 61 years, Sherian Rapson; children, David Rapson (Lisa), Carla Mitcham (Stephen), Jeffrey Rapson (Laura), Kevin Rapson (Dorothy), Eric Rapson (Jessica), and Bridget Rapson; grandchildren, David Rapson (Megan), Megan Estes, Jeffrey Mitcham, Josh Mitcham (Chelsee), Whitney Mitcham, Westin Rogers (Jake), Jordan Burch (Kim), Morgan Rapson, Katelyn Duncan (Ryan), Courtney Rapson (Dani), Karleigh Rapson (Chase), and Kayden Rapson; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and many extended family and friends in Louisville and Florida.
Visitation will be held from 2-6 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Fern Creek Funeral Home, 5406 Bardstown Road, with service to follow at 6 p.m. As we gather to remember Doug, we invite those attending to wear blue, a small way to honor his memory (and his beloved Wildcats!) and celebrate the love he shared with family and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Hosparus Health staff of Louisville and the nurses/staff on 5 West of Norton Women’s and Children's Hospital. Memorial gifts in the form of contributions may be made to Animal Care Society at 12207 Wesport Road or St. Bernard’s Catholic Church at 7500 Tangelo Drive.
