Obituary

Dorothy (Ellison) Schoenbachler Homison, 97, made her final transition on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 after a long and fulfilling life. While our hearts mourn the loss, we take comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering.

Dorothy graduated from Ahrens High School in 1944. She married Howard M. Schoenbachler (deceased) in 1946 and George Homison (deceased) in 1979. Dorothy worked in banking, then moved on to many other jobs, until she finally retired at the age of 85. She was born in Louisville, spending the majority of that time in Fern Creek. Dorothy also lived in Worthington, OH and Cape Coral FL.

Travel was a great part of her life and she traveled to Europe and Africa, along with the Caribbean Islands. She loved the ocean and shell collecting. She was an avid gardener loving to have her yard always looking nice. Moving rocks was a pass-time as well! Dorothy love painting and was very talented although she never shared many of her works. More than once, I remember Mom at the sewing machine making clothes or drapes, hanging wall paper, or reupholstering furniture. I'm not sure there was much mom couldn't do. She enjoyed getting dressed up for any occasion. She had several closets full of clothes. She was a sharp dresser. When she was introduced to the "Red Hats", she took to the group immediately. So much so that she branched out and started her own chapter. She loved to plan card parties as well. Later in her life she worked daily on puzzles. She was referred to as the "Puzzle Lady"

Dorothy, who was an only child, was preceded in death by her parents, Carolyn and Roy Ellison. In addition, waiting for her at the Door to Heaven were her husbands; grandparents with whom she spent a lot of time.; childhood friends with whom she kept in contact their entire lives; in-laws, with whom she spent countless hours laughing and dancing. Lastly but very important to Dorothy, were all the dogs she owned and spoiled!

Dorothy is survived by her son, Michael A. Schoenbachler (Roseann) of Columbus, OH; and daughter, Janet Schoenbachler, of Cincinnati, OH; grandchildren, Justin Schoenbachler (Amber) and Adam Story (Autumn), both of Delaware, OH.

Services will be held at Fern Creek Funeral Home, 5406 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY. Layout will be from 12:30-2:30 Monday, followed by a graveside service and burial.

In lieu of flowers, Dorothy would prefer a donation be made to the Kentucky Humane Society.
