Obituary

Dorothy June Viets Grider, born March 7, 1931 in Willard, Ohio and died February 3, 2023 in Louisville, Kentucky. She was 91 years old.

She leaves behind two sons, Gentry Alvin Madden-Grider (Fannie) of Morehead and Theodore "Ted" Grider (Elizabeth) of Louisville; stepdaughter Peg Beavin; seven grandchildren, Aaron Madden-Grider, Arielle Gibson, Robert Grider, Joshua Grider, Daniel Grider, Linda Goodwin, William Beavin; five great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Two sisters, Laura Kahle and Roberta Cooke also survive her.

Preceding her in death are husband Gentry Parrigin Grider, father William Theodore Viets, mother Ethel Kelley Stutz and sisters Jean Fulton, Barbara Ute and Karen Rowland.

Dorothy was a 1949 graduate of Willard High School. In the early 1950's, she worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio; and the federal Bureau of Alcohol and Tobacco Tax Division in Cincinnati. She married Gentry Grider in Virginia in 1955.

Dorothy and Gentry owned and operated the Bon Air Used Book Shop for two decades. She was active as a volunteer with the Charles Shedd Association and their work with dyslexic youth, Cub Scouts of America USA, and the Eastern High School Band Parents Association. She was a member of Southeast Christian Church. The Sports and Hospitality ministries of the church also benefitted from her giftedness as she served as a volunteer. She had worshipped regularly at Hikes Point Christian Church since 2020.

The visitation and service will be held Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. at Hikes Point Christian Church, 2601 Hikes Lane, Louisville, Kentucky followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. A graveside service will follow at Middletown Historic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to Hosparus Louisville or Hikes Point Christian Church are welcomed.
