Donald Ray Smallwood, 92, died Tuesday, July 21, 2026.
Don was born July 5, 1934 to the late Dotson and Minnie Smallwood. He was a cartographer for the Defense Mapping Agency, and among other projects, he worked on the team that created the maps used by the astronauts for the first lunar landing. He was retired from the Navy Reserves and a long-time member and deacon of Walnut Street Baptist Church.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Todd Webster; son-in-law, Keith Dunn; siblings, David Smallwood, and Doris Alston; niece, Deloris Owen; and great niece, Carey Ann Owen.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Barbara Smallwood; children, Karen Dunn and Brent Webster, and sister, Deloris Lind.
Visitation is 3-7pm Tuesday, July 28 at Fern Creek Funeral Home, 5406 Bardstown Rd. A memorial service will be held at 1pm Sunday, August 2 at Walnut Street Baptist Church, 1143 S 3rd Street. A private burial will be held at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central.
