Donald Gene Ray, 89, while surrounded by his family, peacefully died on Friday, July 17, 2026.
He was born November 13, 1936 in Lancaster, Kentucky, son of Homer and Ina Isaacs Ray. Donnie was a retired master mechanic for Canteen Food & Vending and after 30 years of service, retired as a master sergeant in the Kentucky Army National Guard. He was a 1955 graduate of Male High School, a retired member of Teamster’s Local 89, and served for over 40 years as a Farmgate community zone director. He was also inducted into the Mason-Dixon Games Volunteer Hall of Fame.
In his free time, Donnie was an avid runner. He completed numerous mini and full marathons and even ran a 50-mile marathon! He played on a Senior Softball League for many years and as a UK Football Fanatic, he attended every home and away game since 1996. Donnie loved traveling and since retirement, he and his wife have enjoyed 13 cruises together. He was also a devoted grandpa and enjoyed watching his grandsons participate in various sports. Finally, he was the best and only sitter for his granddogs!
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Nora Alice Dennison Ray; son, Michael Scott Ray; daughter, Pamela Beck (Scott); and grandsons, Zachary and Andrew Beck.
His funeral is 12pm Friday, July 24, 2026 at Fern Creek Funeral Home, 5406 Bardstown Road with private burial. Visitation is after 10am Friday until the time of service.
