David O. Key passed away on December 2, 2024, after a long battle with cancer.  He was preceded in death by parents, Nat and Eliza Key; wife, Phyllis (Tomes); brothers, James Key, Earl Key; sisters, Hattie Northern and Mattie Weliever; and grandsons, David Chase O'Banion and Ryan David Key.

David is survived by and will be greatly missed by wife, Shannon; brother, Charles Key (Shepherdsville, KY); sister, Marcella Gabbard (Bowling Green, KY); children, Wendy Key O'Banion (David), Michael David (Carol), and John David (Shannon); stepchildren, Jonathan Corum (Andrea) and Juliette Cross (Alex).  He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Whitney O'Banion, Reeves (Craig), Kara Key (Danny Tarter), Kasey Key-Herrick (Dustin),  Callan Cross, and Colten Cross; and 6 great grandchildren, Mila Key, Elijah David Tarter, Eva Moreno, Chase Reeves, Emmett Robert David Herrick, and Ezra David Tarter .

David was born on July 23rd of 1939 in Love, KY and spent his childhood and young adult years in the Butler County and Grayson County area of KY.  In 1959, he and Phyllis moved to Louisville, KY.  After moving to Louisville, David worked at various jobs. He worked at Enro shirt company, drove a Donaldson Bakery delivery truck, and he was a licensed barber.  He worked at General Electric Appliance Park for 32 years.  Along with working at General Electric, David operated Religious Supply Center, Inc. and owned Be-Lovely Beauty Salon.  David was a member of the Eastland Church of Christ.

After retirement David and Shannon split their time between Louisville, KY and Okeechobee, FL.  David enjoyed fishing for crappie in Lake Okeechobee, but what gave him greater joy was cooking the fish that he caught for his friends and family and spending time with them in the summer months.

David loved God, his family, his church family, friends, and University of Kentucky basketball.  David never met a stranger and he was always willing to help people in any way he could.  He did his best to lead a Christian life and will be greatly missed.

His funeral is 10am Saturday, December 7, 2024 at Fern Creek Funeral Home, 5406 Bardstown Road with burial in Christian Home Cemetery, Butler County, KY.  Visitation is 12-7pm Friday, December 6, 2024.
