Carolyn S. Sims

September 1, 1940 – September 9, 2023

Today we celebrate the life of Carolyn S. Sims, 83, of Louisville, Kentucky.

Carolyn was born September 1, 1940, in Medford Oklahoma to Andrew Swanson and Meryl Johnson.

She attended High School in Wakita, Oklahoma where she first met her future husband and high school sweetheart Kenneth J. Sims.  They were married June 9, 1962, and enjoyed 58 memorable years together, raising a son and two daughters.

In May of 1962, Carolyn graduated from Oklahoma State University and taught Home Economics to high school students in Marshall, Oklahoma while her husband finished his degree graduating with a Doctorate of Veterinarian Medicine in 1964.

Following her husband, after graduating from Veterinary school and serving as Captain in the U.S. Army, Carolyn and Kenneth lived in Fern Creek Kentucky, where she managed Sims Animal Hospital for just over 54 years.

Carolyn was active in the Auxiliary to the American Veterinary Medical Association, serving as President from 1988 - 1989. Carolyn and her husband Kenneth were active in the veterinary practice in Fern Creek, Kentucky as well as in the Cayman Islands and Turks and Caicos Islands.

Carolyn was a charter member of the Rotary Club of Fern Creek Kentucky, serving as both President, Vice President and was also a Paul Harris Fellow.  Both Carolyn and her husband were active Rotarians for over 30 years, each with perfect attendance.

Carolyn leaves behind to cherish her memory her son, Stanley J. Sims; daughters Stephanie J. Sims and Susan J. Sims; sister Dolores Gilliland (Robert) of Medford, Oklahoma; as well as many nieces and nephews and a large extended family.  Carolyn was predeceased by her parents, and her husband Kenneth "Doc" Sims who passed May 22, 2020.

Friends and family are invited to pay respects by prayers and cards.  Only a private family service will be held.

Memorial donations can be made to the Paul Harris Foundation of Rotary International, the Oklahoma State University Foundation (in favor of the College of Veterinary Medicine), or a charity of your choice.
