Obituary

Betty Ward, 91,died Tuesday, September 10, 2024.


She was born Betty Jean LeMon on March 14, 1933 in Decatur, AL, daughter of Walter Vernon and Farrah Blanche Beck LeMon


She graduated from Fern Creek High School in 1951. Betty was a secretary at American Air Filter and General Electric, where she retired.


Betty was a choir member and former Sunday School teacher at Beulah Presbyterian, Deltona (FL) Presbyterian and Fern Creek Baptist. She was attending Hurstbourne Baptist Church. She was a former volunteer for Fern Creek/Highview Ministries and Deltona Presbyterian food bank. Betty also was a Central American missionary.


Betty had a repertoire of one-liners, which was enhanced by her fun sense of humor.  She loved entertaining and was an excellent cook.  Betty enjoyed having Derby parties  and playing Rook.  She was a passionate reader and University of Louisville Cardinal fan.


She is survived by her husband of 72 years and world traveling partner, James Edwin Ward, Sr.: children, Deborah Beavers (Dennis), James E. Ward, Jr (Helia), Barry G. Ward (Paula), and Stuart A. Ward (Denise); 6 grandchildren, Raquel Ward (John), James Ward (Christina), Michael Beavers (Jessica), Nicholas Beavers (Sydney), Barry Ward (Lexi) and Shelby Ward; and 12 great grandchildren.


Her funeral is 10 am Friday, September 20, 2024 at Fern Creek Funeral Home, 5406 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY with burial at 12:30 pm in Kentucky  Veteran's Cemetery Central, 2501 N. Dixie Blvd, Radcliff, KY. Visitation is 1 - 4 pm Thursday,  September 19, 2024.
