Obituary

Alton Wayne Lewis, 81, loving husband, father and poppy, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024.

Wayne was born June 28, 1943 in Woodbury, TN, son of Clyde and Edna Lance Lewis.  He grew up in Centertown, TN and was a graduate of Centertown High School.  He went into the U.S. Army in August of 1966 and was stationed in Fort Campbell, KY, Ft. Gordon, GA, and Fort Polk, LA.  He served in Vietnam from 1967 through June 1968.  He received the Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal and Sharpshooter Badge. Upon returning from Vietnam in 1968, he was stationed in Louisville, KYI at the Induction Station and was honorably discharged in August 1969.

Wayne attended the University of Louisville and was an industrial paper products salesman.  He also sold automotive parts and real estate.  He was a member of Okolona Church of Christ and the VFW.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his brother, Virgil Lewis.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty Prater Lewis; daughter, Beth Glass; grandchildren, Caleb, Meghan, Max, Cameron, and Aubrey Glass; and sister, Myra Cantrell.

His funeral is 12:00pm Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at Fern Creek Funeral Home, 5406 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY with burial in Lebanon National Cemetery, Lebanon, KY.  Visitation is 3:00 to 7:00pm Monday, August 26, 2024 at the funeral home.
