Alice Gentry, 87, of Louisville, Kentucky went home to be with the Lord on August 5, 2026.

She was born on July 25, 1939 to the late Ralph and Helen Jones of Conowingo, Maryland. Alice was one of eleven children. She was preceded in death by her brothers Sonny, Paul, Johnny, Frankie, Harold, and Glen Jones; her sister, Louise Pittman; and her grandson, Andrew Kennedy.

She is survived by her sisters, Betty Coleman, Stella Blalock, and Nancy Hammer. Alice was married to Gardiner Duane Gentry for 68 years. He lovingly referred to her as his “Mrs. America.” She lived up to the name, as her family never saw her in anything less than beautifully dressed in her Sunday best.

Alice and Gardiner were blessed with three children: Denise Kennedy (Randy), Kim Dennison (Keith), and Jeremy Gentry. She was a beloved grandmother to Josh Kennedy (Bethany), Ally Kuster (Kaelin), Clay, Daisy, Lilly, and Hunter; great-grandmother to Luke, Elijah, Lane, Caleb, Tyler, Levi, Lila, Lola, and Paisley Mae; and great-great-grandmother to Tate, with another great-great granddaughter (Luna) expected soon. She was also a much loved aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Alice attended Tennessee Temple Bible College and later shared her knowledge and faith as a teacher at the Kentucky Bible Institute. For 24 years, she served as a pastor’s wife at Victory Baptist Church. In 1999, her influence reached far beyond her own community and across the world, where she became affectionately known as “Mom” to the ministry established in Malawi, Africa.For the last 26 years, she served alongside her husband in the ministry they founded, Victory World Outreach and the Good Samaritan Orphanage. Many of the children from the Children’s Home now have permanent homes here in the United States. 

Alice wore many hats. She was a teacher, pastor’s wife, counselor, hospice caregiver, play director, soul winner, church bus director, and floral designer.

Above all, Alice was known by many as a true Proverbs 31 woman.

Donations can be made in Alice’s name to Good Samaritan’s Children Home in C/O Victory Baptist Church. Flowers can be sent to Victory Baptist Church.

Her funeral service is 12pm, Monday, August 17, 2026 at Victory Baptist Church, 7808 Beulah Church Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40228 with a burial service at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff, Kentucky to follow. Visitation is also at the church on Sunday, August 16, 2026 from 4 - 6pm and after 11am Monday until the time of the service.
