Albert I
Baete
August 9, 2025
Albert I. Baete has been a member of the Fern Creek / Highview community for (87) years, but as of Saturday, August 9, 2025 he now calls heaven his home. He is a 1956 graduate of Fern Creek High School and served in the military as a member of Kentucky Army National Guard. He owned his own business, was a Union Carpenter with Local 64 and was skilled in the installation of large accordion and rolling steel doors. Most importantly, he was a born-again believer in Jesus Christ and understood that the Word of God is the standard for life, and his greatest source of strength.
Albert is survived by his daughter, Penny Walker, son, Barry Baete (Roberta), grandchildren Amy Broyles (Robert), Kris Ellison-Baete (Sarah), Derek Baete, Abby Baete, Sophia Baete, Hailey Baete, Allison Baete; great-grandchildren, Caleb Broyles, Ellie Broyles & Luca Ellison-Baete; siblings, Carolyn Peak (Harold) and Harold Baete; and sister-in-law, Rosemary Baete.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Patricia (2016), his sons, Bryan (2020) and Charles (2024) and brother, Garnett Baete.
Albert was an exacting man; able to identify with naked eye any structure or framework in the city that was the least bit out of plumb. He was thrifty; a hard worker, and enjoyed growing a vegetable garden. He was an avid sports fan; be it MLB, NBA, NFL or college ball –he enjoyed watching them all. With him, there was an order to accomplishing most every task; a correct way of doing things. Though he was a serious man, his outer shell seemed to melt like butter in the presence of a grandchild.
He had the utmost respect for a maintenance schedule and laughed hardest at his own jokes. Regarding firewood: make sure it is stacked straight, and that you burn oak (or similar), if you want it to last all night. As far as simple pleasures go… there's apple butter, a freshly mowed lawn and the warmth that radiates from a wood stove in winter. A couple of "Albert-isms", to close… -You should never be without work gloves, a flashlight or a toothpick. -If you don't intend to do it right, don't do it. -You're not finished until your tools are clean.
